- Blockchain: the path to secure, trusted smart container services
Blockchains are a rapidly evolving area of information technology with the potential for delivering significant advances in security, reliability, and cost efficiency, particularly in information exchanges. In supply chains, blockchain can potentially retain, secure, and simplify access to data generated throughout the cargo journey—from shippers, carriers, smart containers, ports, cross-border agencies, banks and insurance institutions, Beneficial Cargo Owners (consignees and consignors), and other members of the widespread supply chain ecosystem.
This paper describes how blockchains and smart container technology can be used as a foundation for smart supply chains, especially smart container services. Blockchain, once combined with smart container services, offers a secure, trusted way to record transfer of responsibilities across the supply chain.
